I assume you are using the win32 client and not the linux one? Could you take a screen shot of what the teacher gui looks like when you have no option to do anything else?(email it to me at k@submersion.com) If it actually finishes receiving all the messages it should say 'Ham: Done' not 'Ham: 313/313', etc. If you have a linux box try the classifier on there. The windows GTK library has given me nothing but trouble.

There are 2 things that I have found that I had to do to make sure the Classifier will download the email.
1st was to turn off virus scanning of pop3 email.  It seemed to disrupt the transmission using Norman Anti-Virus.

2nd.  Under Gwia's Access Control. Edit the class of Service that your Spam and Ham accounts use to POP3.  Turn on High Performance on Size Calculations.  This will make the percent go to 100% when downloading but all the messages should download.  You just have to watch the number or messages downloaded.  I had to do this since my download would timeout waiting for GWIA to calculate the size of all my Spam messages.

I have a group of users who are forwarding their mail to ham and spam user accounts for use with the classifier.

1. Does it make any difference if the messages are forwarded or forwrded as attachments?

2. If it doesn't make any difference, can users attach multiple messages for forwarding to a single message?

James,

It will recursively go through a mail and get all text parts and use them in the classifier. So yes, you can forward, forward as attachment, or forward multiple messages as attachments in one mail.

Daniel,

Thanks for the info on how you got it to work. When we eventually go over and remake the stand alone classifier we will check into making it more robust when dealing with groupwise.

I've been using Gwhiz 2.0.1 only a short time now and have a couple of things I'd like to see on the Classifier.

I'd like the classifier to run as a CLI command-line (non-gui) with the ability to skip running the classifier after importing the emails and  signal the Gee2.NLM do a "teach" job.

What we'd like to see happen is the following:

Run the classifier as a CLI (command line) with the option to:
1) specify the output directory, ham/spam accounts passwords, server.
2) Option to skip the Classifier portion built into the gui
3) Option to notify the gee2.nlm that it should execute a "teach Classifier" process.

What this will allow us to do is run the CLI as a cron job and have it read the ham/spam accounts, prepend the date to the output so that it does not overwrite existing spam/ham already in the Gee2\gas\corpus\[ham,spam] directory and then signal the GEE2.NLM that it should run a "Teach Classifier" process/job on the server.

That being said... it would be nice to have the classifier be able to remove files from the Gee2\gas\corpus\[ham,spam] directory that are over x days old or in the case of a large spam directory (15,000 files) delete files if the directory exceeds a user specified limit.

Anyone else like this idea?
thanks

Hopefully in the future we can implement these or similar features, but right now we have way too much work to add more onto our plate. Once we have completed our current projects I know that we will be revisiting the stand alone classifier to fit better into some of the new stuff planned, and we will keep in mind the requests you have made. (Which none should be too difficult to implement, just time consuming)

re: classifier

I created a 'ham' account and transferred 716 ham messages to Mailbox.

Created a 'spam' account and transferred 902 spam to Mailbox

Ran the GEE Whiz classifier, selected Acquire HAM and SPAM from POP accounts

Entered the login info for the two accounts, then click Import Mail

Got HAM:  done  (0%), SPAM:  done (0%)

Can you help me find out where I went wrong?  How can I make the  HAM and SPAM in those POP accounts get processed?

On an earlier attempt, I managed to get a few to process, and a few HAM and SPAM were converted to SMTP and put in folders on my C: drive (in the GEE classifier folder system).

Any pointers?  It would really help us if we could renew our .dat files!

Thanks

Mike
