Omni Mobile release 2.3.1.71 and higher clients support commercial and locally generated Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates for all platforms.   This includes all commercial certificates from vendors like Thawte and VeriSign and non-commercial (locally-generated) SSL certificates on all supported mobile platforms.  In addition, by default, Omni Mobile uses 192-bit AES encryption of all password information at ALL TIMES on all mobile platforms.

Commercial SSL Certificates.  Please refer to vendor and/or service provider web sites to determine SSL support for a particular Palm device.

To enable SSL with Omni Mobile on Palm devices, modify the Omni Mobile client Tools > Options > Server URL value to use https:// instead of http://.  Once you save the change, your device will start using SSL. All data communicated between the device and Omni Mobile will be encrypted using SSL encryption.

What if my device reports errors when trying to use a SSL certificate?

Please refer to "Common SSL Errors" and "Server SSL Certificate Error" forum posts that contain helpful troubleshooting tips.

Are non-commercial SSL certificates now supported?
I just installed Omni for a 30-day trial and everything went fine.  I got my Palm TX device provsioned (I think) and it shows up as an enabled device in Web Access.  But when I try to connect now in The Palm Omni application to our GW server using a self-signed SSL cert, I get:  "Error: InvalidHostAddr" every time.

I *know* the URL is correct and can connect to the Web Access server just fine using the Palm Blazer web browser.  This same URL worked fine in the initial provisioning wizard when I fisrt installed Omni.

What is happening here?

Hello, Brian.

I believe you are encountering a problem with the DN (distinguished name) of the host server not matching the URL you specify in your browser. This is a common problem for NetWare servers.  The default SSL certificate uses the name of the server as it was originally installed, e.g. FS1.mycompany.com, instead of the DNS name of the GroupWise WebAccess server, e.g. mail.mycompany.com.

Please refer to "Server SSL Certificate Error" for steps to correct the problem.
