How to Perform a "Split  Server" Installation

Omni Mobile can support a "Split Server" installation to support an environment that runs the GroupWise WebAccess Application Server (web server hosting WebAccess) in a DMZ and the GroupWise WebAccess Agent on a different server in a more secure zone in their network.

These seven links from Novell provide additional information on "GroupWise split server" installations:

Ensure that the GroupWise WebAccess Application server meets the Java and Tomcat minimum requirements for Java and Tomcat.

To perform a "Split Server" installation:

1.  Run the Omni Mobile server installer on the server hosting the GroupWise WebAccess Application Server and follow the screens until you reach this screen:

2. Select "Split WebAccess Server".

3. Click "Next" and follow the prompts to complete the rest of the installation.

The installer will disregard any settings for "Number of Mobile Users" or "Path to your WebAccess startup file (.WAA)".  You will have to manually modify the .WAA file on the server hosting the GroupWise WebAccess Agent and restart the WebAccess Agent (refer to our next tip, "How to Support Additional Users").

I assume that there will not be any support for Netware 5.1 in any release?

Omni Mobile is compatible with all versions of NetWare that support Java 1.4.x.  By default, this support should be included when you do the update to the current versions of GroupWise and/or service packs.  Additional information can be found on Novell's support site.

TID number 2971008 indicates that Support Pack 8 for NetWare 5.1 includes updates for both JVM 1.3.1 and JVM 1.4.1.  However, according to the NJVM site (http://forgeftp.novell.com/jvm/README.html) the system requirements for the 1.4.3 JVM are NW6 SP4+ or NW6.5 SP1+.  We  posted a question on the NetWare forum and received a response from Anders Gustafsson (volunteer sysop) suggesting that there was a typo in the SP8 readme.txt file:

It is a typo in the readme. Java 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 are
only supported on NW 6.0 and above

This leads us to believe that unless Novell can provide an installer for JVM 1.4.x for NetWare 5.x, then Omni Mobile is not supported on NetWare 5.1.
