How to Upgrade the Omni Mobile Client
You can use the normal installation steps to install a newer 2.x client over an already installed 2.x client. When in doubt, refer to the README.TXT file included in the latest omnimobile.zip download file. To perform a normal client upgrade:
- On your device logout of the Omni Mobile client and ensure that it is not running in memory. (Important - do not proceed until you have completely shut down the client.)
- On
your device, install the latest release of the Omni Mobile client onto
your device using the procedures described in the applicable Quick Start Guide or the User Guide (you will not have to reprovision the account).
- On your device, run Omni Mobile and log in.
What if there is a new Appforge Client
If there is a new Appforge Client (applies to all device types except Palm OS devices), then the best practise is to:
- On your device logout of the Omni Mobile client and ensure that it is not running in memory. (Important - do not proceed until you have completely shut down the client.)
- Uninstall the Omni Mobile client from the device.
- On
your device, install the latest release of the Appforge Crossfire client onto
your device using the procedures described in the applicable Quick Start Guide or the User Guide (you will not have to reprovision the account).
- On your device, install the latest release of the Omni Mobile client using the same method used in step 3.
- On your device, run Omni Mobile and log in.
Note - For Palm OS devices, just install the latest client over the existing client. The Appforge Crossfire client is built into the Omni Mobile client.
Check Device Status
If the device fails to update policies or data after the upgrade, there may be more than one instance of the device in "Device Status" in the "General" page for Omni Mobile in the user's WebAccess. In this instance the recommended fix is to remove all but the most recent devices for the affected device from "Device Status".
The correct steps are:
- On your device logout of the Omni Mobile client and ensure that it is not running in memory. (Important - do not proceed until you have completely shut down the client.)
- From a computer, login into GroupWise WebAccess. Select the Omni Mobile tab (GW 7.x) or icon (GW 6.5) and select the "General" page.
- For each duplicate device (do not do this for the device with the latest installed date/time) listed for the affected device in "Device Status", choose "Delete Device" from the drop-down list. Click "Update".
- On your device, run Omni Mobile and log in and check for policy updates.
Client Releases
New releases of Omni Mobile which include the client installation files are made public in the following places: Omni Mobile will always be released as omnimobile.zip. To register to receive the download link for this version, go to:
Always read the README.TXT file contained in the omnimobile.zip file to determine if you need to upgrade the server and/or the client software.
Steps for performing the upgrade of the Omni Mobile
server are contained in the "Upgrade the Omni Mobile Server" in the Admin Guide.
