This response is to a question received by email from Paul regarding HTML emails.
We tested the Novell GroupWise Mobile Server but found that it could not read HTML emails. We use Palm Treo 650 phones. So with Omni mobile, is it possible to read HTML emails? And is also possible to view HTML objects in email messages?
Yes, Omni Mobile supports reading HTML emails by treating them as HTML attachments. To view an HTML email with Omni Mobile (as an attachment), in the top half of the Omni Mobile interface, scroll to the attachment. Click on the attachment. Answer Yes to the question, "Do you want to view this in HTML mode?" This will copy the URL to your browser. Open the browser. Paste the URL into the browser and hit enter. This will use the GroupWise WebAccess viewer to retrieve the HTML email in the browser for you to read.
I am not sure what you mean by HTML objects in email messages. If you are referring to HTML objects that would appear in an HTML email, then using the above process would also display the HTML objects because the email would be being viewed in a browser. Think of this as viewing the HTML email in GroupWise WebAccess. In theory, if GroupWise WebAccess is able to view the HTML email, then Omni Mobile is able to present the email in the browser - because that's what we do, we use GroupWise WebAccess to render the HTML email.
If you mean can Omni Mobile retrieve HTML links from an email, yes, Omni Mobile can retrieve an HTML link in an email. You do so by selecting to "Reply" to the message, highlight and copy the html link, open your browser, paste the link into the browser.
The one disadvantage that the Treo 650 has compared to the other mobile operating systems is that one application (in this case, Omni Mobile) will automatically close when you open a second application (in this case, your browser). This prevents you from being able to read the email and view the HTML page at the same time. This restriction is a function and inconvenience of the single task functionality of the Palm Operating System. This is not a problem with the other supported mobile platforms.
