How to Upgrade from Omni Mobile 1.x to Omni Mobile 2.x
This article discusses how to perform an Omni Mobile server upgrade from version 1.x to version 2.x. If
you have installed Omni Mobile version 1.x, please note that the installation
process for version 2.x will substantially modify the server information for
the Omni Mobile policies and the data sent to the devices.
Our recent testing has confirmed that version 1.x clients will still be able to connect to the 2.x Omni Mobile server. Users should be able to continue to use Omni Mobile without interruption (other than during the upgrade process).
While the version 1.x client will continue to work after the server upgrade, the enhanced features provided by Omni Mobile 2.x will not become available to users until they upgrade the device client. It is highly recommended that the Omni Mobile client on all devices is upgraded to version 2.x that comes with the most current omnimobile.zip download file. Refer to "How to Upgrade the Client from 1.x to 2.x".
The recommended best practise Omni Mobile 1.x to 2.x upgrade steps are::
1. Uninstall
Omni Mobile 1.x from the WebAccess Application server. (See "How to Uninstall Omni Mobile" in the "Omni Mobile Admin Guide".)
2. Make
a copy of the existing \data folder where the Omni Mobile datastore is held and
name the copied folder \data.om1:
o
e.g. For NetWare 6.5 / OES Netware – SYS:\tomcat\4\data.om1
o
e.g. For NetWare 6.0 – SYS:\tomcat\33\data.om1
o
e.g. For Windows with GroupWise 6.5 – e.g. c:\novell\java\data.om1
o
e.g. For Windows with GroupWise 7 – e.g. c:\novell\tomcat5.5\data.om1
o
e.g. For Linux - /var/opt/novell/tomcat4/data.om1
(If you need to restore the 1.x version
of Omni Mobile, this will preserve the server datastore information to allow
for a successful restore.) 3. (Optional) You can start Tomcat (or IIS on Windows server) and confirm that WebAccess works correctly without Omni Mobile installed. 4. Perform the
installation of the current release of the Omni Mobile server. (See "Install the Omni Mobile Server" in the "Omni Mobile Admin Guide".)
