Question:  Can Omni Mobile server be moved to a different server without losing Omni Mobile user preferences?

Answer:  Yes, but there are some important items to remember:

  • You will need to make a backup of the \data and \WEB-INF\classes folders before uninstalling Omni Mobile from the original server.

  • If the URL for GroupWise WebAccess does not change from the original server to the new server, then you can use the original classes\license.key file.  Otherwise, you will need to contact Omni Support to request a replacement license.key file.

  • You may want to contact Omni Support or call 780.423.4200 to ensure that you are going to use the correct steps.

SCENARIO A (same WebAccess URL)
:  A decision has been made to migrate GroupWise WebAccess Application Server to a new server platform.  The installed Omni Mobile server also needs to be migrated.  The GroupWise WebAccess URL will not change.  Steps to move the Omni Mobile server are:

  1. Stop Tomcat on the original server.
  2. Make backup copies of the \data and \classes folders from the original server.
  3. Uninstall the Omni Mobile server from the original server.
  4. Start Tomcat on the original server and verify WebAccess functions correctly.
  5. When GroupWise WebAccess has been verified as working on the new server, stop tomcat.
  6. Install the Omni Mobile server on the new server.  DO NOT START TOMCAT YET!
  7. Copy the \data\omnimobile_admin.script file from the backup (step 2) to the \data folder on the new server.
  8. Copy the \classes\license.key file from the backup (step 2) to the \WEB-INF\classes  folder on the new server.
  9. Open the \classes\omnimobile.properties file from the backup (step 2) and copy the values for the following properties into the WEB-INF\classes\omnimobile.properties file on the new server:

    admin.userId =
    activation.email =
    authorized.users=

  10. Start tomcat on the new server.
  11. Login into GroupWise WebAccess as the Omni Mobile admin account and verify that the Omni Mobile detail pages are available.

SCENARIO B (different WebAccess URL):  A decision has been made to migrate GroupWise WebAccess Application Server to a new server platform so that only those users being serviced by Omni Mobile will see the Omni Mobile tab/icon when logged into their WebAccess account.  The installed Omni Mobile server also needs to be migrated.  The GroupWise WebAccess URL will change.

  8. Copy the replacement license.key file into the \WEB-INF\classes folder on the new server.
