The current release of Riva is a Windows 32-bit application.  Riva cannot be installed or configured to run as a Windows service (that capability will be added in a future release).  Riva can be scheduled using Windows Task Scheduler.  It is recommended that Riva be installed on a strict accecss-controlled Windows computer that will remain running at all times to ensure that Riva policies will run as scheduled.

The recommended best practice steps to install a configured Riva solution are:

STEP 1 - Install the Riva Application
  • Confirm that the server meets the system requirements:
    • Riva is compatible with GroupWise installed on Novell OES, NetWare, SUSE Linux and Microsoft Windows
    • UNC path access is required to the source GroupWise server from the workstation to which you install the Riva administration module.
    • Riva requires GroupWise 6.5.2 and above for use with Trusted Application API support.  Riva Managed Signatures requires GroupWise 7.0.2 with SOAP enabled.  Riva Managed Rules requires GroupWise 7.0.3.
  • Confirm that the host computer that will run the Riva application meets system requirements:
    • Windows 2000/2003 Professional or XP Professional workstation with .NET 2.0 is required to run Riva. A future release will run on Linux.
    • 256 MB RAM
    • 50 MB of available disk space for the application
    • GroupWise Windows Client
  • Download the latest version of Riva (Riva-latest.zip).  This download does not include an installer for Riva.  To install Riva:
    • create a C:\Program Files\Omni\Riva folder.
    • Extract the riva-latest.zip file and copy the contents of the \riva-latest folder to the C:\Program Files\Omni\Riva folder.
    • Make a shortcut of the Riva.exe file to your desktop and label it as "Launch Riva".
  • Launch Riva and perform the "Check for Updates" procedure. If there are updates, you will need to restart Riva after the update download process is finished.
STEP 2 - Configure System Connections
  • Select Setup and click the eDirectory System connection wizard. This will configure Riva with connections to your eDirectory tree and GroupWise system using a Trusted Application Key. Refer to the "Riva Setup and Licensing Guide" for the steps.
STEP 3 - Create and Test Desired Riva Policies
  • Select Policies and then run the applicable Policy Wizard and Report Wizard to build the desired policies.  Thoroughly test each policy using sample source and destination user accounts.  Once testing has been completed, reconfigure the source and destinations for each policy.  Refer to the "Riva Modules and Reports Guide" for the steps.
STEP 4 - Schedule Desired Policies
  • Determine which policies need to be scheduled and change the policy Scheduled setting.  Create the scheduled task in Windows Task Scheduler to implement scheduled policy execution.  Refer to the "Riva Modules and Reports Guide for the steps.
