Question:  I want to bulk create 1000+ users from an input data file including home directories and secondary home directories.  What is the recommended strategy for this using EMU.

Answer:  Bulk creating a large number of users including creating home directories can take a considerable amount of time.  The recommended strategy is based on whether you plan to create secondary home directories and use a value from the input data file to name those secondary directories.  With any bulk creation of a large number of users, we always recommend performing these actions during quiet hours.

Option for Default Naming of Secondary Home Directories

By default, EMU will name secondary home directories using the login name of the user account.  If you choose this option, then we recommend that you:
  1. Create the user accounts using your input data file but do not create home directories or secondary home directories.
  2. Next use the input data file to find the users just created.  Select Tools > Account Search Based on Data File and follow the wizard to locate the users.
  3. Right-click the highlighted users and select "Modify Account(s)".
  4. Select the Home Directory tab, and then choose to Create Home Dir and Create 2nd Home Dir and complete the steps.
Option for Naming Secondary Home Directories Using the Input File

EMU does not support creating secondary home directories using the "Modify Account(s) From File" option.  If you want to use a value from the input data file to name secondary home directories, then you must choose to create home directories and secondary home directories when you create the user accounts.  Is this case, we recommend sub-divide the single large input data file into several smaller input  files and use those smaller files to create new users with EMU.
