E
The current release of Riva CRM Desktop Edition is a Windows
32-bit application. Riva CRM Desktop Edition cannot be installed or configured to run as a Windows
service, rather it can be configured to run as a minimized application from the desktop system tray.

M M E N D E D B E S T P R A C T I C E S T E P S
The
recommended best practice steps to install a configured Riva CRM Desktop edition solution
are:
STEP 1 - Install the Riva
CRM Desktop Edition Application
- Confirm that the user's computer meets the system requirements:
- Windows 2000/2003 Professional, XP Professional workstation or Windows
Server 2000 or 2003 with .NET
2.0 is required to run the current version of Riva. (A future release will
run on Linux.)
- 256 MB RAM
- 50 MB of avaialble disk space for the application
- GroupWise Windows Client (A future release will not require the GroupWise
Client.)
- For riva-desktop-latest.zip download: This
download does not include an installer for Riva CRM Desktop Edition. Please use these instructions to install
Riva CRM Desktop Edition:
- Download and
extract the "riva-desktop-latest.zip" download file onto the desired Windows computer
system.
- Extract the riva-desktop-latest.zip file to c:\Program
Files\Omni\Riva-CRM-Desktop.
- Place a shortcut for the Riva.exe file on the Windows desktop and label it Launch
Riva Desktop.
- Double-click Launch Riva Desktop to ensure
that it runs correctly.
- From the application main menu, select "Help" > "Check for Updates" to update
Riva Desktop Edition to the latest available version. Follow the steps in "How to Upgrade Riva CRM Desktop Edition".
STEP 2 -
Configure the Connections
- Select the Setup tab and click the GroupWise Connection configure connection link to run "Welcome to Riva's GroupWise Wizard".
- Click Next>.
- Add the GroupWise user name, password, DNS name or IP address for the GroupWise Post Office that the user's GroupWise client uses (leave the port as 7191).
- Click Next> and Finish to finish.
- Select the Setup tab and click the "Target Connection" configure connection link to run applicable CRM connector wizard.
- Select the applicable CRM system and click OK.
- Follow the respective CRM connector wizard. Provide:
- User's CRM user name
- User's CRM password
- URL to CRM login screen in a browser:
- SugarCRM e.g. http://sugarcrm.mycompany.com
- info@hand e.g.
http://infoathand.mycompany.com
- MS CRM e.g.
http://mscrm.mycompany.com - Salesforce.com - choose one of:
- Production (Encrypted - https) - Production (Not Encrypted - http) - Sandbox (Encrypted - https)
- Click Next> and Finish to finish.
STEP
3 - Configure Synchronization Settings
- Select the Setup tab and click the Settings button to configure the synchronization settings:
- Under the Sync Start Time tab, specify the synchronization start date and time. This will synchronize all changes from the time specified to the execution time. Note - this setting is disabled in "Demo" mode.
- Under the Scheduling tab:
- Specify if you want the application to run each time Windows starts, and
- Specify the "peak" and "off-peak" synchronization schedule. Remember to edit the "Peak Time ..." and "Blackout Times ..." to match your needs.
- Under the Address Books tab, specify the name of the CRM address book that will be created in the user's GroupWise address book and indicate which type of objects to sync between GroupWise and the CRM system.
- Under the Calendaring tab, specify the name of the CRM calendar that will be created in the user's GroupWise calendar and indicate the type of calendar items to sync between GroupWise and the CRM system.
- Under the Other tab, specify the name of theCRM content folder that will be created in the user's GroupWise cabinet and select the objects to sync from the CRM system to GroupWise.
- Under the SmartConvert tab, specify the name of the parent folder that will hold the SmartConvert drag-'n-drop folders, and select Enable SmartConvert.
- Click the OK button to save the Synchronization Settings.
STEP 4 - Run Riva Desktop Edition in the System Tray
- Click the minimize button in the top right corner,
- OR - - Click the X button in the top right corner of the application.
- In the "Minimize Instead" window choose:
- Yes to minimize the application to the Systray, or
- No to close the application.
- If you minimize to the Systray, a "Ri" icon will appear in the Systray. You can double-click the "Ri" icon to open the application, or right-click the "Ri" icon to:
- Show (opens the application)
- Sync (force an immediate sync)
- Exit (close the application)
