Question:  Can EMU be used to modify the value for the uniqueID attribute of existing users?

Situation: Customer reported that iManager is not letting existing admin level users access to file server / volume objects because the uniqueID attribute values are empty or do not match the common name attribute value.  Customer confirmed that the value is blank.

Answer:  Yes, EMU can do this type of update using "Modify Account(s) From a File".

Procedures:  Use the following steps:

Create an EMU "uniqueid.csv" Export File
  1. In the "NDS View" pane in EMU, highlight the desired container, right-click and choose "Select All Users In Container" or "Select All Users In  And Below This Container" OR use Control+Click or Shift+Click to select the desired users that need the uniqueID attribute modified.
  2. Right-click one of the highlighted users and choose to "Export Account Information".
  3. Select the "Login Name", "Distinguished Name", "Given Name" and "Last Name" check boxes.
  4. Click the "Advanced Values" button, scroll the "Advanced Values" list and select "uniqueID".  Click "OK".
  5. Click "OK", specify a name for the .CSV file (e.g. "uniqueid.csv") and click "Save".
Modify the .CSV File
  1. Open the .csv file using Microsoft Excel.
  2. Copy the values from the "Login Name" column to the "uniqueID" column and save the file.
Locate the Users in EMU Using the .CSV File
  1. In the EMU main menu, select "Tools" > "Account Search Based on Data File".
  2. Click the "Select" button and choose the .CSV file modified above.
  3. Ensure that "Distinguished Name" is being used for "Identifier Field" and that "Distinguished Name" is selected as the "comparison field".  Click "Next".
  4. In the "Report Information" pane, select the users displayed in the NDS Context, right-click and choose "Select in NDS View"
Modify Accounts From a File
  1. In the NDS Information pane, right-click one of the selected users, and choose "Modify Account(s) from File".
  2. Select the modified .CSV file and click "Open".
  3. Under the "Setup Information" tab, ensure that "Distinguished Name" is selected for "Select Account Identifier Field:".
  4. Select the "NDS" tab and click the "Advanced Values" button.
  5. Scroll down the Advanced Values list and select the "uniqueID" Schema Name item.
  6. In "Settings" check "Modify Value", select either "Replace Existing" or "Append Values" as desired, and select "uniqueID' from the drop-down list beside "Data File Field:".
  7. Click the "Modify" button.
  8. Verify the changes against one or more of the accounts using ConsoleOne.
