Background: Riva Integration Server for Exchange requires that the user account identified in the Riva Exchange Connection have full access permissions to all the target mailboxes that will be synchonized to a CRM using Riva.

There is a simple test that you can conduct:
  • Using Outlook, connect (login) into the administrator (account used in the Riva Exchange Connection) mailbox.
  • Then attempt to proxy into a target user that you wish to synchronize CRM data to.  If you can access the target user's mailbox without a full access error, then Riva should work.

Challenge:  Working with another customer who was experiencing the same challenge, we determined that the issue was caused by the Exchange connection account having full access, but it was a member of the Domain Admins group.

Cause:  Exchange automatically places a "deny receive as" and a "deny send as" on any account with Domain Admin membership.  We believe this has been causing the access problem.

Resolution:  We do not recommend over-riding the default security setting in Exchange.  We recommend creating a "RivaCRM" AD/exchange account and use that account to assign full access permissions to target mailboxes.  This "RivaCRM" account should not be a member of the AD domain admins group. This can be over-ridden in Exchange Management Console on a mailbox-by-mailbox basis.  We did a little research and discovered two blog posts that explain the challenge and offer some solutions for making mass changes to this default configuration:
We hope this sheds some light on this challenge and offers a working resolution.
