Omni Notify for GroupWise FAQ
Q: Why does Omni Notify require GroupWise 6.5 SP3?
A: Omni Notify requires GroupWise WebAccess 6.5 SP3 (or newer) because it uses one of the GroupWise WebAccess Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that is new in 6.5 SP3.
Q: How does Omni Notify use WebAccess?
A: Omni Notify uses the native WebAccess APIs to run "merge files". These merge files allow Omni Notify to login and communicate "through" WebAccess to talk directly to the GroupWise user account.
Q: How do I access Omni Notify?
A: The 30-day trial client component of Omni Notify is accessed from http://www.omni-notify.com/ . There are five "merge files" that need to be copied to your GroupWise WebAccess server and one file that needs to be copied to the root of your web server to enable the server side components. These files are provided when you license Omni Notify or download the 30-day trial version. When you launch Omni Notify from http://www.omni-ts.com/ , the web service checks to ensure that the account or domain being accessed is properly licensed. After you purchase your licence, you receive the server-based licensing file to install on your server. After a licence is installed on your server, there is no communication with our servers.
Q: What desktop platforms are supported?
A: Omni Notify is written in Flash. Flash is supported on all current browsers for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Macintosh. All that is needed to access Omni Notify is a browser that provides Flash support. In fact, if your handheld PDA or phone supports Flash, Omni Notify will work with it, too.
Q: We run GroupWise WebAccess on Apache on Linux (or with IIS on Windows). Will Omni Notify work with our system?
A: Yes. As long as you are running GroupWise WebAccess SP3, Omni Notify will work with your installation. Omni Notify is compatible with WebAccess running on NetWare, Linux or Windows with your web server of choice.
Q: Is Omni Notify secure? What information is being sent to the Omni Notify server?
A: During the 30-day trial period, other than licensing information, there is no user account or other information (including passwords) sent to the Omni Notify web server. After the Omni web server confirms that the account being accessed is properly licensed for Omni Notify, all communication occurs directly between the Flash application and your WebAccess server. Omni Notify is secure because it uses the GroupWise WebAccess APIs to access user account information. If your WebAccess system is configured with SSL (highly recommended for security puposes), Omni Mobile uses SSL encryption to encrypt all information sent between the Omni Notify client and your GroupWise WebAccess server. Please note that SSL encryption support is not available for Internet Explorer with this release. We expect this support will be available for future releases.
Q: Can Omni Notify be installed directly on our own web server?
A: Yes. After the 30-day trial period, Omni Notify can be installed so the client can be accessed directly from your own server. This requires that all users in your GroupWise domain be licensed for Omni Notify. Please contact us if you are interested in having Omni Notify installed on your own web server.
