Details

HDU is a Windows application that is installed on the desktops of Help Desk Operators, teachers, lab assistants or local site administrators to allow them to quickly carry out standard user management changes.  The restricted interface allows you to control which tasks can be carried out by different users.  HDU users do not need to deal with the complexities, the possible errors or the learning curve required to use Console One or NWAdmin.

Help Desk Utility Components

There are two separate HDU applications:  the HDU Configuration Utility (used by the administrator to set up the interface restrictions) and the HDU executable (used by the Help Desk Operator).  The HDU Configuration Utility allows the administrator to configure the containers to be managed, the management options to enabled (GroupWise password change, distribution list management, etc.) and which components of the interface to enable.  

These settings are saved to an HDU.INI file.  A separate file can be created for and assigned to each type of Help Desk Operator.  This file contains the specific security settings and functions that you want to be used by your HDOs.  The INI file needs to be copied to the directory from which HDU.exe will be launched by the HDOs.
