Exclusive Linux Desktop Offer for Education

Omni, Userful and Novell are pleased to announce that the "Free the Penguins" initiative has been extended to December 31st, 2008. You can still take advantage of this exciting offer to deploy your first lab of
Multi-station SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop systems free of charge.

Every university, college and K-12 school district in the world is entitled to a free 30-user Desktop Multiplier™ license (software valued at $2,970, hardware not included). More than 70 education customers from 29 US States and 10 countries have already taken us up on the offer, and the number grows daily. Based on the demand, Novell has offered 900 more free SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop licenses. Contact us immediately if you're interested in participating.

Over 20,000 Multi-station Linux Desktops have been deployed in more than 3,000 schools (view some of our Success Stories). We are confident that once you have given this low-cost, eco-friendly alternative to stand-alone Windows® desktops a try, you'll never want to go back!

Take advantage of this promotion to experience the next generation of Multi-station Desktop Virtualization for your school. Allow up to 10 students to share a single PC. Dramatically reduce your hardware, maintenance and infrastructure costs—while cutting down on e-waste and CO2 emissions.

Experience how Multi-station Linux Desktops stretch your IT budget and improve computer-to-student ratios. Leverage your existing hardware or contact us about our certified hardware bundle options.

Experience OpenOffice.org, Firefox®, Novell® GroupWise®, Evolution™, instant messaging, photo and music management software plus hundreds of free Linux-based education applications available on the web.

Contact Omni for Your Free Licenses

Education institutions are invited to contact Omni for their free licenses at +1.780.423.4200 or via this
Email Form. Select "General Inquiry" as the topic and "Linux - Desktop Multiplier" as the product.

Please include answers to the following questions in your email:

  1. What system configurations will you be deploying before the December 31st deadline (e.g., 7 x 4-user systems, 5 x 6-user systems, 3 x 8-user systems...)?  Six-user systems are the most commonly deployed systems because many motherboards have three PCI or PCI-Express slots.

  2. Will you be building your own system using existing hardware or would you like us to send you a quote for a certified hardware bundle? Go here for step-by-step instructions on how to build your own systems and for recommended dual-head video cards.

  3. Are you already entitled to SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop through an existing Novell SLA or ALA?  (If not, another 30 customers will receive up to 30 licenses free of charge through this promotion.)
