Recommended Hardware
For a 6-user Desktop Multiplier system, the most common configuration, we recommend the following desktop hardware:
*
Tip: We still recommend using the 32-bit version of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and the Desktop Multiplier for the best stability and driver support.
**
Tip: If keyboards or monitors with integrated USB ports are used, users can connect USB memory keys, audio headsets and other USB peripheral devices.
Step-by-step Installation
- Before installing SLED, install your PCI-Express and/or PCI dual-head video cards in the host PC
(Recommended cards).
- Physically connect your monitors, USB keyboards and mice to the host PC. You will probably need
2 x 4-port USB hubs. A DVI-to-VGA adapter will be required for DVI ports with the default configuration. Following are instructions on how to get around this and have DVI support:

- Install SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SP 2.
- If you are using NVIDIA dual-head cards, you will need to update the NVIDIA driver via YAST:
www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html#7
- Confirm that SLED recognizes the multiple heads (i.e., you can drag applications across multiple monitors).
- Create some sample user accounts in YAST.
- Install the Squid Web Proxy Cache to enhance browser performance (recommended):

The next step is to configure Firefox on each system to auto-detect proxy settings for the network (Preferences > Advanced > Network > Connection Settings) and to set offline storage to 0 MB of space. It's also a good idea to update Firefox's privacy settings so that browser history and form data are deleted each time the Firefox session is closed.
- Install the Desktop Multiplier:

- Reboot the system.
- The Userful wizard will appear. This will allow you to assign monitor/mouse combinations to their respective monitor. This is a one-time assignment. Special key combinations allow you to re-assign keyboards to their respective monitor and reset a station if needed:
http://support.userful.com/wiki/index.php/Readme/Desktop_Multiplier#Special_Key_Combinations
- Install your Desktop Multiplier activation code using these instructions:
www.omni-ts.com/linux-desktop/get-key.html
- If you would like to set up individual USB audio and memory key support, install the two extra RPM packages that are included in the Desktop Multiplier zip file after installing the Multiplier.
Install with "rpm -Uvh ":
