Benefits

Omni Mobile enables mobile PDA and Smartphone users to work smarter and collaborate with GroupWise whether they are in the office or on the road.  Omni Mobile takes advantage of your existing hardware and software without requiring any additional hardware, software, gateways, firewall holes or network complexities.  After installing the Omni Mobile client software on your PDA or Smart Phone and the server software on your GroupWise 7 or 6.x WebAccess server, as long as users can access GroupWise WebAccess from the Internet, they can use Omni Mobile.  Omni Mobile is unique because it leverages your existing GroupWise hardware and software investment – and maximises your GroupWise ROI and user experience. Omni Mobile provides mobile on-line and off-line access to GroupWise.  In addition to bringing down the cost of your wireless solution, Omni Mobile ensures that your wireless connectivity is as SECURE and as RELIABLE as your GroupWise system – no proxy access, no trusted APIs, no firewall changes to support SOAP or other protocols, no IMAP or POP3 limitations – just GroupWise!

  • Your GroupWise data is secure with Omni Mobile.  Omni Mobile uses 192-bit AES encryption to safeguard your login credentials at all times on the device and over the air. Omni Mobile provides SSL support for over-the-air communication.  A commercial SSL certificate is required for Palm and Sony Ericsson devices.  Locally generated SSL certificates are supported with PocketPC devices.  "Double encryption" will be available with Version 2.3.  Version 2.3 will provide encryption for the all data stored on your handheld and for secure end-to-end over-the-air communication.  Because the encrypted client talks directly to GroupWise (through the WebAccess APIs) and does not use proxy access or trusted APIs, all email and information synchronised through Omni Mobile is secure. It cannot be read or modified by your Omni Mobile administrator or your service provider.
  • Omni Mobile provides the highest Return on Investment for your current GroupWise infrastructure.  No additional software licences, tape backups, anti-virus software, storage devices, software patches, databases or hardware management required.
  • Omni Mobile is not restricted to a single vendor or type of PDA or Smart Phone mobile device or telephone company data carrier.  Your organisation can choose to standardise on a single vendor or mix and match mobile devices and data carriers to best meet the information needs of your users and applications.
  • With off-line support to their GroupWise account, Omni Mobile users can take advantage of disconnected time to respond to emails when they are out of coverage.  Their answers are queued to be sent when they get back into wireless coverage or when they connect their device to the cradle.
  • Omni Mobile's native GroupWise look and feel make it the fastest and easiest solution for your users to adopt and be productive.  This creates the fastest user adoption and highest satisfaction.  Users appreciate that Omni Mobile looks and feels like GroupWise.  They have one mailbox to manage - whether they work with Omni Mobile, their desktop client or WebAccess. Omni Mobile makes your users more productive and responsive.
  • One of Omni Mobile's unique strengths is that it is not limited by the restrictions of native device email clients or limited address books. Omni Mobile users can synchronise their full calendar (including tasks, appointments and notes) and synchronize multiple GroupWise address books.  When users read an email or accept an appointment on their handhelds, that information is marked and transmitted to the GroupWise system, just as if they were using one of the other GroupWise clients.
  • Users can selectively delete emails from their handheld or from their complete mailbox.  This keeps memory usage to a minimum on the handheld device.
  • Omni Mobile allows you to select, for each folder, different update frequencies, numbers of days of email to synchronize to the device and number of days of email to retain on the device.  This provides the best flexibility, increases device performance and delivers the richest set of synchronisation options available.  Omni Mobile automatically cleans up the emails and calendar entries that are not in the date range specified for each folder.
  • Omni Mobile allows users to administer their own mobile connectivity settings.  This removes user administration and configuration responsibilities from the GroupWise administrator.  Users access their settings by selecting the Omni Mobile icon in the GroupWise WebAccess interface.  There are no separate logins and passwords to remember, no complex LDAP connectivity required, no change in the user paradigm.  Users simply login to their GroupWise WebAccess account, configure their options, select the folders and address books to synchronise and they are ready to install the application and initialise their account on the device.
  • Live Policy Updates and Over-the-Air client installation and account initialisation mean that your users never have to cradle their device.  When a user selects to add or remove a folder from the synchronisation list, the Live Policy Update sends all changes over-the-air.
  • The Enterprise Management Module (available with a future release) will provide centralised administration, installation and management functions that include:
    - ability to store the Omni Mobile user policies in an external database
    - ability to install Omni Mobile in a fault-tolerant, clustered, load-balancing environment
    - ability to control who can activate their mobile account
    - ability to configure system default and individual minimum and/or maximum values and settings
    - ability to apply a maximum amount of data to be transmitted over costly GPRS when users are roaming off their home
    - central administration of maximum and minimum synchronisation values
    - send a "Poison Pill" to the Omni Mobile client in case of device loss or theft.
  • Omni Mobile is quick and easy to install on the server.  It uses the same Graphic User Interface to install on Novell OES, NetWare, SUSE Linux and Microsoft Windows.
  • Time to install and configure default server software: 10 minutes.  Time to install and configure default device software: 5 minutes.  Time to initialise the GroupWise account and transfer the data files to the mobile device:  10 minutes
  • Easy to use, familiar GroupWise user and administration interface
  • Because Omni Mobile allows for user configuration or administrative over-ride of the synchronisation polling cycle (every five, 10, 15, 30 minutes, etc.), your modem is not constantly using power by continuously trying to communicate with the server.  This significantly increases battery life when compared to other strategies.
  • Omni Mobile communicates with GroupWise through the GroupWise WebAccess APIs and GroupWise 7 SOAP APIs for version.**  Omni Mobile offers extensive future mobile GroupWise capabilities (attachments, document management).
  • Omni Mobile - the best return on your GroupWise PDA synchronization and mobile investment.
