BUS 224:  "Multiplied" Linux Desktop Migration Strategy for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Presenters:
  • Trevor Poapst, Director of Global Marketing, Omni
  • Aldo Zanoni, CEO, Managing Director, Omni
  • Garry Hodgson, OEM Business Development Manager, Novell South Africa

Abstract:
Modern single-user PCs spend most of the day idle. In this session, attendees will learn how to use the Linux Desktop Multiplier to leverage this unused computing power. The "Multiplied" Linux Desktop Migration Strategy allows you to migrate up to 10 users to a single SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 computer.

Omni and Novell will present a number of case studies that highlight how customers have used the Multiplier and the power of Novell SUSE Linux to deliver compelling desktop value. You will learn how the University of New Mexico, North West Province of South Africa, Birchwood Art Gallery, LoveLife HIV/AIDS Awareness Program, Popular Autonomous University of Mexico and others have driven more value out of their fixed IT budgets, reduced exposure to viruses, decreased electricity and recycling costs by migrating their single-user computers to multi-user Novell SUSE Linux desktops.

The session will cover the key deployment, user management and technical considerations of using this strategy for Linux-based classrooms, training and computer labs, thin client deployments, Internet cafés and retail point-of-sale terminals. Special consideration will be given to discussing how customers can overcome the "Windows application required" dilemma and how Novell's ZENworks for Linux can be used to manage the multiplied desktop systems. Attendees will receive a copy of the "Multiplied" Linux Desktop Strategy white paper, the Linux Desktop TCO Calculator and a free four-user Linux Desktop Multiplier licence. View website »
