What you'll learn / How to register

In this web seminar, your Novell Users Group will learn how Novell customers are taking advantage of the Multiplied SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop Strategy to:

  • maximize their fixed budget;
  • boost hardware utilization;
  • re-purpose existing Windows PCs;
  • leverage their existing infrastructure; and,
  • deliver a more secure and cost-effective Linux-based OS to their users.
We'll cover all the common questions – how to connect them, what about Windows applications, maximum distance from host PC, recommended hardware specs, licensing costs and more...

Session Overview

Dual-core and quad-core processors far exceed the power needed by most users. Think of a K-12 environment where children are running typing tutors, learning how to prepare reports and use spreadsheets, sending email, researching on-line and using basic Linux education software. Chances are they're using less than 10% of their computer's horsepower. Or, how about a call center, bank, retail store, Internet café or health care environment where only one critical application is required?

Surely, there must be a more cost-effective strategy than deploying stand-alone desktops or taking a performance hit with thin-client or dumb terminals. There is. And we need your Novell Users Group's help to get the word out. It's called the "Multiplied" SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop Strategy.

Using the Linux Desktop Multiplier, powered by Userful, you can run up to 10 independent, full-featured SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktops on a single PC. You still license SLED on a per-station basis, but you're saving up to 80% on your hardware, management, electricity and network infrastructure costs.

Each station consists of only a monitor, USB keyboard and mouse – and an audio headset or USB memory key if desired. While they may sound like thin clients, they're not. They're full-client user sessions with dedicated video access. Each user logs in normally and authenticates to the network with the Novell Client for Linux. Users can run the same application at the same time. Chances are your users will not even realize they're sharing the same desktop.
