Overview
Victor Central School District serves 3,190 students in New York from pre-kindergarten to the twelfth grade. Their schools are located on a 176-acre campus that includes five buildings surrounded by athletic fields and playgrounds. The Challenge
Victor Central School District needed a more effective GroupWise and eDirectory user account management tool to make bulk changes to student accounts during peak school year periods in the late summer and early fall.
"We needed a tool to help us roll student accounts from one academic building to another as students moved between kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school," said Dave Henderson, Director of Computer Services for Victor Central Schools. "The tools provided by Novell to manage NetWare, however, are sparse. And their tools to import large numbers of users are poor. There were no tools to bulk import users to GroupWise."
The Solution
Victor Central School District's needs were perfectly suited to Omni’s Enterprise User and Import Management Utility (EMU).
“EMU is a great mass import tool, so initially bringing several thousand user accounts into eDirectory and GroupWise was easy. We have used many of the mass modify options available within EMU to change properties for large numbers of users all at once.”
Since purchasing EMU in 1999, Victor Central School District has remained one of Omni’s most loyal customers. They have renewed their Software Update and Support Plan each year and continue to be pleased with EMU for mass imports and changes to their 3,190 eDirectory and GroupWise accounts.
The Results
“We have been very happy with EMU. Transitioning student home directories to a different server is made much easier with EMU,” continues Henderson. “The biggest benefit of using EMU has been the significant time savings. What would have taken several hours using Novell user account management tools, now takes a few minutes with EMU!"
