Weber School District uses CCUweb to Share 50 GroupWise Calendars Online
In 2002, Weber School District migrated to the Novell GroupWise email and collaboration system. GroupWise has exceeded most of the school district's needs, except in the area of web calendars. Having been long-time users of Omni's Enterprise Management Utility (EMU), they decided to use CCUweb to share their 50 GroupWise calendars on-line.
Overview
Weber School District is located in Utah and provides educational services to approximately 29,000 students. Its mandate is to create an excellent educational environment for students and to invest tax dollars prudently.
The Challenges
- Needed to show shared GroupWise calendars on school web sites
- Needed a solution to improve on-line communication with staff, schedule holiday announcements and share information with parents and patrons
- Needed to update multiple, shared GroupWise calendars several times per day
- Needed an on-line GroupWise calendar solution that was easy to use and install
- Novell GroupWise was unable to produce web calendars
Solution
In 2002, Weber School District migrated to the Novell GroupWise email and collaboration system. GroupWise has exceeded most of the school district's needs, except in the area of web calendars. Having been long-time users of Omni's Enterprise Management Utility (EMU), we decided to contact Omni to see if they had a GroupWise web calendar solution available to meet our needs. CCUweb was presented to us as a potential solution, and it has proven to be very successful in helping us meet our school district calendar communication needs.
Our Findings
Weber School District has found CCUweb to be a simple yet elegant solution. "With CCUweb, we can create and dynamically update multiple GroupWise web calendars with ease," says Alex Korkishko, Systems Administrator for Weber School District. He continues, "CCUweb has grown from publishing four initial calendars to over 50 publicly-viewed GroupWise calendars." Each school has a dedicated, GroupWise email account where upcoming events are entered by school staff members. CCUweb connects to each GroupWise account every three hours and publishes the new events on-line automatically.
