Test Drive Scenarios - eControl Create

After reading the scenarios that are described below, we invite you to login to our live demo eControl network and carry out wizard-based Create tasks.

Click here to login as a Local HR Staff Account.

eControl "Create" allows you to assign authority to non-technical personnel for them to be able to create accounts, security groups, email distribution lists, resources and other objects based on eControl "Create profiles". Create profiles contain different Create forms based on the object type being created.  The Create forms are configured to include the "required" and "optional" information.  Create profiles are assigned to groups.  "Create Authority" controls who can create which type of objects in which OU(s).  Don't forget that users who can access the Create profiles have NO rights or permissions in the file system or Active Directory, Exchange, eDirectory or GroupWise systems. All Create functions are written to the full audit file.

After you have finished your eControl Create test drive, fill out an on-line request to download and evaluate eControl in your environment.  Please review the eControl hardware and software requirements.

Test Drive Scenarios

eControl Create Scenario - create a new user account:

  1. Connect to eControl LIVE.
  2. Login as edmontonhr (password = econtrol). Note there is no "Manage" option. This user does not have authority to manage users but has authority to create users.  To login and create different objects in the different Active Directory, Exchange, Novell and GroupWise systems, use the edmontonhr, newyorkhr, vancouverhr, berlinhr or acmehr logins.  See the bottom of the Test Drive page to review the accounts assigned to the operating system and email platform you want to work with.
  3. How many Create Profile folders are available to this user?  Double-click on the folder name to open the folder to see the different types of objects the user can create.  What object types does this user have authority to create?  Compared to number 5 below, how many Create Profile folders can they see?  Select a Create Profile and fill in the required information. The required fields, the naming convention, and network and email values are controlled by the Create Profile and the template that was assigned to the object being created.
  4. To confirm the account (group, email distribution list, resource, etc.) was created, you will need to login as a user with access to the Manage module (newyorkmanager, vancouvermanager or berlinmanager or hdo accounts you used in the Manage scenarios).   Select the Manage tab and search for the object you just created. Right-click the account to confirm your ability to manage the account by making some changes.
  5. Continue your testing with one of the local hdo accounts or login as acmehdo (password = econtrol) and select the Create tab.  This Master user is able to create users and other objects with all of the available Create Profiles in all of the configured OUs.
  6. Select a different Create profile.  Note the different fields required for the different accounts and other objects in the different OUs.  Remember, after creating an object, you confirm the accounts were created by doing a search for it in the Manage module.
  7. Continue the eControl Create tests by creating different object types (security groups, email distribution groups, resources, etc.).

Please contact us at +1.780.423.4200 if you are having problems carrying out the above scenarios.  Our LIVE system is updated on a regular basis to the latest release and may be unavailable from time to time.
