Test Drive Scenarios for
Help Desk User Management (HD)
Before starting the scenarios, please ensure you have allowed "Pop-ups" for the eControl live site. After reading the scenarios described below, we invite you to login to our live demo eControl network and carry out web-based Account Management tasks.

For the following eControl LIVE scenarios, each HD Operator has received the ability to carry out the eControl tasks that have been assigned to the appropriate eDirectory group. For example, berlin4 can carry out the tasks assigned to the eDirectory groups he belongs to. berlin5 can carry out the tasks assigned to the Berlin_All Tasks_Group.
Search Authority and Task Authority are controlled by the eControl Administration Module and assigned to eDirectory groups. The eControl administration interface is not available to be demonstrated on our eControl live site. Please contact us if you would like a demonstration of the eControl administration interface.
After you have finished your eControl test drive, fill out an on-line request to have a technician contact you to set up a 30-day trial version of eControl. Before contacting us, please review the eControl hardware and software requirements.
When carrying out the scenarios, left-click on an account to highlight it. Then, right-click on the highlighted account to view the tasks that are available to be carried out.
Test Drive Scenarios
eControl HDO Scenario One - "Restricted" tasks in a single container
- Connect to eControl LIVE.
- Login as berlin4 (password = econtrol)
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns a number of users.
- Select and right-click one of the users. What option(s) is(are) available for you to change? Remember that GroupWise management options will only appear in the HDO interface for user accounts that have a GroupWise account enabled.
Carry out the above scenario by logging out and re-logging in berlin5 users (password = econtrol) and searching for a number of different combinations of User Name, First Name and Last Name searches. You will be able to carry out all of the eDirectory tasks but still be restricted to your configured container.
eControl HDO Scenario Two - "Un-restricted" tasks in a single container
- Login as berlin5 (password = econtrol).
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns a number of users.
- Select and right-click one of the users. What option(s) is(are) available for you to change. How is this different than in Scenario One?
eControl HDO Scenario Three - Access to manage all users
- Connect to eControl LIVE.
- Login as acme5 (password = econtrol).
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns all of the users starting with "aa" based on a much wider "Search Authority".
- Select and right-click one of the users. What user management option(s) is(are) available for you to change? This user is able to carry out all tasks in multiple containers.
- Carry out the above scenario by searching for a number of different combinations of User Name, First Name and Last Name. You will be able to carry out all assigned eControl Tasks in all of the search containers.
eControl HDO Scenario Four - Manage "Active Directory Users" (while logging in as an eDirectory user!)
- Connect to eControl LIVE.
- Login as berlin4 (password = econtrol).
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns a number of users. Notice that eDirectory and Active Directory users are visible for the Berlin container in the two trees.
- Select and right-click one of the Active Directory users. What option(s) is(are) available for you to change?
- Logout from eControl and re-login as berlin6 (password = econtrol).
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns a number of users. Notice that only Active Directory users from the Berlin container are visible. This account is restricted to managing Active Directory accounts in the Berlin container.
- Select and right-click one of the Active Directory users. What option(s) is(are) available for you to change?
- Logout from eControl and re-login as acme6 (password = econtrol).
- Do a search for the User Name aa*. This returns a number of users. Notice that only Active Directory users are visible, but they are visible across multiple containers.
- Select and right-click one of the Active Directory users. What option(s) is(are) available for you to change?
- Logout from eControl.
GroupWise Distribution List Names
Each of the containers in the above scenarios contains a number GroupWise Distribution Lists. To assign a user to a Distribution List, highlight the user (by doing a left-click), right-click the highlighted user, select GroupWise Distribution Lists, select Add New (or Remove Selected), do a search for dl* and you will see the distribution lists that fall into your "Search Authority".
